Our Mission
Udo's Choice exists to close four gaps in the way most of us eat.
The range was created by Udo Erasmus, a globally recognised expert in healthy fats and nutrition and author of Fats That Heal, Fats That Kill. Since launching in 1994, Udo's Choice has focused on four areas of nutrition that Western diets consistently under-serve:
- Essential fats — the two fatty acids the body cannot make for itself
- Greens — the vegetables and phytonutrients most people fall short on
- Microbiotics — live bacterial strains, formulated by age group
- Digestive enzymes — plant-derived, declared by measured activity
How we formulate
The principles have not changed since the beginning:
- Free of impurities, including chemical residues
- Organically certified ingredients wherever possible
- No genetically modified ingredients
- No unnecessary fillers or artificial ingredients
- Packaged to maintain quality — amber glass rather than plastic where light and oxygen matter
- Environmentally responsible packaging processes
- Vegetarian, and vegan where the formulation allows
- Produced with respect for every ingredient, using extraction methods chosen to protect what is in it
Why we publish the difficult numbers
Most of what distinguishes a good supplement from an ordinary one is invisible on the front of the pack. So we put it on the back, and on these pages.
Live cell counts at expiry, not just at manufacture. Bacteria decline over shelf life. Quoting only the manufacture figure produces a bigger number and tells you less. Every Udo's Choice microbiotic declares both.
Enzyme activity, not just weight. Milligrams describe how much powder is in a capsule. FCC activity units describe what it does. We publish the full set for every enzyme in both formulas.
Strain-level percentages. A blend listing eight strains without individual figures could be seven token strains and one making up the bulk. Ours are broken down.
Ratios, stated plainly. Ultimate Oil Blend is formulated to a 2:1 ratio of omega-3 to omega-6, and says so.
What we do not claim
Under UK law, health claims may only be made where they appear on the authorised register. For several of the things we make — live bacteria and digestive enzymes among them — no authorised claims exist at all.
So we describe what is in each product rather than what it will do for you. It is a constraint we would rather work inside honestly than talk around, and it is why the specification on every page is as detailed as it is.
Where our products are made
Udo's Choice products are manufactured in Canada by Flora Manufacturing & Distributing in Burnaby, British Columbia, and imported and distributed in the UK by Savant Distribution, Leeds.
Thirty years on, the aim is the same one Udo started with: give people the tools to look after four things most diets miss, and be straightforward about what is in the jar.
